Turning an Unused Dining Room Into a Cozy Living Space | DIY Fireplace Hearth

I’m turning a dining room we almost never use into a cozy living space we’ll actually enjoy, starting with a DIY fireplace hearth using large format, slate look porcelain tile.
This room has been sitting mostly unused for years, so I’m finally rethinking how it works for our family. Along with the new hearth, I’m testing furniture layouts and making plans for comfortable seating around the fireplace, a smaller dining area, curtains, new lighting, a rug, a faux coffered ceiling, and all of the little details that will make this room feel warm, collected, and useful.
Like most of our projects, this is very much a real-life renovation. I’m working with what we already have, bringing in antique and vintage pieces, figuring things out as I go, and trying to make the biggest impact without spending a fortune.
If you enjoy old house renovation, achievable DIY projects, cozy interiors, antique finds, and adding timeless character to a home, I share new videos each week as we continue the restoration and renovation of our 1930s cottage, along with a few projects here at our home in the countryside.
Thanks so much for watching and following along!
