Episode A: Interior Design Space Planning
Chapter 2: Dining Room Layout | Furnishing Solution and Lighting Arrangement

Welcome back to Ark Interiors’ Interior Design series. In this video, we will explore the art of dining room space planning, focusing on innovative solutions and additional elements to optimize functionality and enhance the dining experience. Our in-house interior designer shares expert guidance on creative space planning with the following points:

1. Creative Space Planning:
– Beyond traditional rectangular, round, and oval dining tables, consider the versatility of an extendable table.
– An extendable table allows for efficient space utilization, adapting to different purposes and accommodating more guests when needed.
– The recommended size for an extendable table is around 30 inches (80 cm) in width and 48 inches (152 cm) in length, with an additional 18 to 24 inches (46 to 61 cm) when extended.

2. Furniture Selection:
– For casual dining, bistro or bar tables are ideal, providing a relaxed atmosphere for two people.
– Bistro tables, typically round or square with a diameter of 24″ to 30″, are versatile and space-saving options.
– A Lazy Susan can enhance formal or family-style dining, facilitating the distribution of food on a large round table.
– Console tables serve as practical additions, offering extra surface area for preparation or buffet stations during entertaining.

3. Additional Storage and Display:
– Consider incorporating storage and display features such as glass showcases, sideboards, cupboards, and open shelves.
– Glass showcases are vertically oriented with one or two doors, while sideboards and cupboards provide organized storage with doors or drawers.
– Wall-mounted open shelves offer easy access to displayed items and can act as dividers in open concept layouts.

4. Lighting, Rug, and Decorative Elements:
– Choose lighting fixtures, like chandeliers or pendant lights, proportionate to the room size and dining table.
– Accent rugs should be large enough to accommodate the table and chair legs, extending at least 24 inches from each side.
– Incorporate decorative elements that enhance both functionality and aesthetics.

Conclusion:
To create a unique dining room space, embrace your personal lifestyle and carefully consider its intended use. Visualize the desired ambiance and how you envision entertaining and dining in that space.
