An Atmospheric Manor Hotel in Rural Germany, Redesigned by Studio Oink
Nestled in the rambling forests of central Germany, the faded glamour of an 1885 manor house-turned-hotel was in need of an update. After designing a few rooms in a family’s private villa, Lea Korzeczek and Matthias Hiller of Studio Oink were asked to take on the large scale renovation of the family-run hotel Schloss Teutschenthal. In the 1990s, the former hotel management (the mother-in-law of the current owner) took on the design herself and over thirty years later, the rooms had felt overly built-up, dark, and forgotten. “We wanted to design the interior in calm and restrained colors and in relationship to the hotel’s original design but still be contemporary,” Lea explains. First designing the 20 guest rooms, corridors, and breakfast area (the garden house, lobby, and library are currently underway), Studio Oink created a “modern, elegant, and understated mood that has a certain luxury with fine details.” Just what one would expect when checking into an enchanted historic manor.
