Trend Alert: Frilly Pendant Lights That Hang Like Flowers
Currently experiencing a revival: flouncy, old-fashioned hanging lights made of glass and ceramic. Widely available in vintage and new versions, they alternately call to mind Little Miss Muffet-style night caps and drooping blossoms. Even members of the no-frills school of design have been succumbing to their granny charm.

“It turns out this jewel-colored glass is not easy to come by, which explains its desirability and high price, both in Victorian times and today,” writes deVOL. “A true piece of cranberry glass, like our frilly shade, is made with gold. The gold reacts with the glass during firing to create this very specific cranberry color. The first firing releases the color, then it’s laid over a handmade steel frame and re-fired, allowing it to slump into a delightfully delicate swirl of frills.”
